Single serve bottle sales surge during pandemic
Single serve wine sales in the US have increased by over a quarter – 27% on the previous year according to Nielsen, driven by consumers’ desire to sample new wines without having to consume a whole bottle.
One company to have seen phenomenal growth in this sector is Denver- based Wander+Ivy, a premium organic direct to consumer wine brand that sells single serve wines from family owned vineyards. It has enjoyed rocketing sales since the pandemic, up by 450% in 2020 and 250% in 2021. Founder and CEO Dana Spaulding attributes this growth to consumers who want premium wine in smaller packaging. “People are conscientious about budget as well as packaging, both of which I believe we have successfully tackled,” she told Beverage Industry Enthusiast.
French wine merchant le Grand Verre also specialisies in selling 187ml bottles sourced from independent prodcuers, and reports 100% increase in growth over the past two yars. “I Love the idea that you can taste just one glass of my wine,” said winemaker of Le Grand Verre Domaine Caylus, Ines Andrieu. “It makes it much easier for consuemrs to discover our family winery in Languedoc-Roussillon.”
