UK's drinks trade body signs deal with Chinese spirits company paving the way for future post-Brexit partnerships
The UK’s Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has signed a deal with a Chinese distiller to boost trading relationships between the countries as the UK seeks to firm up relationships with non-EU countries in the wake of Brexit.
The agreement, was signed earlier this week by WSTA chief executive Miles Beale and Yuan Renguo, chairman of the Kweichow Moutai Group, and is part of the trade association's strategy to pave the way for future deals.
“By working closely with the wine and spirit industry colleagues, across the globe together we can better advise politicians on the benefits of free trade deals and how to avoid unnessary barriers for the free flow of trade,” said Beale.
The agreement with the Chinese company and the coming together with polticians from both countries demonstrated the “keeness to collaborate and build industry partnerships,” he added.
Moutai bosses were accompanied by the governor of Guizhou province, Shen Yiquin who is on a two day trip to the UK promoting business links between the province and the UK.
“Over the last few years, China/UK friendships have continued to warm with the efforts of the leaders of both countries - welcoming a golden era of China-UK relations,” said Renguo.
