Latest bulk wine prices and trends from around the world
- Europe comprises 56% of global wine production.
- European 2017 harvest down by 3.5% compared to 2016
- Global wine production down in 2017 to 291m cases.
- US harvest up by 7.8%
- South African crop higher than 2016, though lower than 2014 – 2015
- Italy, France and Spain all saw volumes decline as Romania emerges as a mid tier producer of significance, up 20m cases compared to 2016
- Australia up by nearly 10m cases, while US production added 4m cases. Italy produced nearly 90m fewer cases of bulk wine than in 2016
- French bulk wine down by almost 65m cases, and Spain down by 40m.
- Biggest year on year growth came from Brazil and Argentina, which increased by a combined 60m cases.
- Average price per litre of Italian bulk wine increased from 0.72 euros in September to 1.60 euros in October.
- French bulk wine increased its average price from 1.32 euros to 1.36 euros, while bulk wine from Spain saw an increase from 0.44 euros to 0.54 euros.
