- Number of commercial vineyards: 502
- Number of wineries: 133
- Annual production 2013: 4.45m 2014: 6.3m 2015: 5.06m 2016: 4.15m
- Hectares under vine: 2,330 ha (5735 acres)
- Hectares planted in the UK has doubled in the last 8 years, and is set to grow by a further 50% to 3000ha by 2020.
- In 2017, 1m vines were planted in the UK, the largest number ever planted in a single year.
- Wine production is forecast to reach around 10m bottles by 2020.
- Sparkling wine accounts for 66% of production, still white 24% and red/rose 10%
- Around 5% of all English wine is now exported, amounting to an average of 250k bottles each year, which are shipped across five continents.
- This figure is expected to increase ten fold by 2020 alone, to around 2.5m a year (25% of production).
- English wine is now exported to 27 countires, up from 19 in 2015.
- Key markets include the US, Scandinavia and Japan.
- Key producing regions: South East, Wessex, Thames & Chilterns, Wales, South East, Mercia, East Anglia
- There are over 150 vineyared open to the public in the UK.
- Top four grape varieties planted: Chardonnay 26.4% Pinot Noir 24.7% Bacchus 844% Pinot meunier 6.32%
- These account for two thirds of total vine variety plantings in England and Wales
